Solar

For the past six years, I have been working with a solar company called 1UP Solar. One of my roles with them that I’ve really enjoyed has been my work as a Project Coordinator. For some of the solar projects we installed, we partnered with other companies who did the actual installation, and I was the one meeting once a week through video calls with people from the installers, to see how things were going and make sure everything was moving through the pipeline smoothly – Or see what needed to be done to get the project moving if it wasn’t.

Another role that I really enjoyed working on with 1UP Solar was submitting the applications to the utility companies for Permission to Operate, or PTO as we call it. This is the final step that needs to happen before a customer can actually use their solar panels. For a project to be approved for PTO, there are a lot of documents that need to be submitted, and a lot of information about the solar system that needs to be entered correctly, and I was the one who gathered all the documents and info and got it added to the application. Along the way I looked for info on the documents that I knew was going to be rejected, and asked for a revision before I submitted it. This all probably sounds tedious, but it’s an important step, and I enjoyed being the one in charge of it. I also found it rewarding knowing that I was the one bringing customers across the finish line so they could actually use their solar.

Video

For a long time I’ve had a great internet in video editing, and my degree in school was in video production. After school I moved to LA for a while, hoping to get into editing or production up there, but ran into several roadblocks and ended up moving back to San Diego. But I still have an interest in video production, and have edited a few promo videos for 1UP Solar during my time with them. During school and up in LA, I was also involved in the editing of a few feature length independent films.

Web and Graphic Design

After heading home from LA, I took a class in Dreamweaver after becoming interested in web design, and that became another area I put a lot of focus on. In 2009 I took over the website for a theater in North Hollywood that I had been doing work for while I was in LA, and I ran that site for several years. I also designed printed materials like postcards and posters that were used to promote shows that the woman who owned the theater was doing there.
